In the book, the people in the Bay Area have compost toilets. Does anyone here have one? I believe they're not allowed in Los Angeles and much of California, but I'm told Pasadena has no restrictions on them (for now).
For anyone who may not be familiar with compost toilets, here's a website about them: www.envirolet.com

Re: Compost toilets
Thu, June 23, 2005 - 7:36 AMMy friends who own about 100 acres in Soquel (Santa Cruz county) have built a compost toilet. I haven't seen it yet but I know they're working on it - or it might even be done by now. -

Tue, August 23, 2005 - 6:15 PMSorry for my late reply. I've been told about a campground near Lake Tahoe that has them. Also, at the moment they're allowed in Pasadena, CA.
I hope you'll keep us up to date about the one your friends are building (or have built) in Soquel.
The sewage treatment here in Los Angeles is pretty bad. At te very least, I wish an alternative treatment could be used like water hyacinths, which are used in Austin, Orlando, San Diego, and somewhere in Vermont.
