Hello all,
I just finished the book a couple of days ago, and it has given me the vision I have been seeking about my path and the future. I am planning to start the training in January in California. I'd also like to meet and chat with any of you in Portland or the Bay Area. I'm glad to have found this tribe doing a random search on Reclaiming. It's nice to be here.
Love and Light,
Robyn

Re: I'm in!
Wed, December 13, 2006 - 4:34 PMRobyn is probably talking about Earth Activist Training in January that Starhawk co-presents. It is a permaculture based program that extends into "progressive political organizing, and explore strategies for change. Weave in threads of Earth-based spirituality, inclusive and non-dogmatic, to connect heart and soul to the work. Add nature awareness as the touchstone. This is Earth Activist Training, a rich array of solutions, tools, and strategies to redesign our world."

On top of all the learning you also receive a 72 hour permaculture certificate.
I'm heading there myself, so I'll see Robyn and anyone else there.

Re: I'm in!
Fri, December 15, 2006 - 6:05 AMI can vouche that the choice is well worth it. The instructors, the information, the food(!), the people, I have no learning in my life that compares; no learning that has been as useful (and fun!). Even though I live in the suburbs, in my parents house, with so little exposure to a permaculture environment, the strategy of being permaculture plays out in every interaction i make, based on a resevoir of pertinent information that I continually feed with an interest that shall remain relivant for eternity! (Hence permaculture; permanant culture). There is so much support for anyone who makes the effort, people, tribes, literature old and new, I highly recommend "mycelium running, how mushrooms can help save the world" by Paul Stamets. Though perhaps it is best to see what Pigeonhawk has up his sleeve (Patrick teaches mycorestoration for the course). I would attend all over again, over and over again! Thank you for taking the initiative, there is no better time than now, mother Earth calls us and she has guides to teach us. Starhawk is no doubt, a reprisentative of an important current, alive and working aligned with the elements (and awesome friends!).

Sun, December 24, 2006 - 1:56 PMActually I'm headed to the Elements of Magic Weekend Intensive offered by the SF Reclaiming community.

But the Earth Activist Training sounds very good too. I will look into that for later as I'm very interested in permaculture as well. I'd love to hear about the training after you get back.

Re: I'm in!
Mon, January 1, 2007 - 8:52 AMThat's really interesting that we had two completely different takes on this and found two different courses.
I most appreciated the idea of society living in tune with nature, mobilizing power of the people and facing overwhelming power with non-cooperative modes of resistence.
I've never been much into the idea of magic, though it made for an interesting perspective into the characters of the book.
I'll have to look further through the discussion board to see if things like this have been touched. Ryan -

Re: I'm in!
Sun, January 7, 2007 - 12:27 AMIt's nice to see this thread expanding and producing some discussion. I think all the ideas and paths portrayed in the book are valid and important. Different groups in the book had different kinds of expertise, and they were all important and needed. I also appreciated the same ideas that you did in the book. I am very much about living in harmony with our Mother, non-violence and the consensus process, and creating and using power to hold on to those things. And you know what? What you are talking about and what I'm talking about are not all that much different. Have you ever read any of Starhawk's non-fictional works? You might be pleasantly surprised how those ideas work nicely into creating the things you appreciated about T5ST. You might want to look into some of her ideas in Spiral Dance and Dreaming the Dark.
And thank you for the energy you are putting into learning more about Earth Activism. It's important work. Maybe you can teach me and others what you learn one day.
Blessings,
Robyn

Re: I'm in!
Mon, April 9, 2007 - 10:33 AMHi Ryan!!
So much has transpired since January. You've been to EAT, I've been to my magic workshop, and now I'm going to EAT!! I'm very excited. I already have great visions and plans for what I'll do with what I learn there. But I am curious how you felt EAT tied into the vision in the book. Has your vision changed since attending EAT?
I may get to ask you soon myself. We apparently have a mutual friend here in Portland and I understand you'll be visiting soon.
Peace and Blessings,
Robyn
